Velotric Summit 2
Last year's Summit 1 was one of the best beginner electric mountain bikes I'd ever ridden — the Summit 2 is that bike made even better. You get a bigger 802 Wh UL-certified battery, 100 Nm of torque and full per-mode app tuning for just $100 more. The build took me about 20 minutes — one of the simplest I've ever done in this shop.

Custom mode with boost, rear wheel spinning free on the work stand — no rider weight. The rained-out trail ride will tell the real story. “Look at that. As stated, 28 miles an hour.”

Front wheel, bars, pedals and done. “This all took me maybe 20 minutes. This was one of the simplest builds I've ever done in this shop.”

Light for an ebike with this much battery and travel. “The bike itself is only 57 pounds. Compared to everything else I'm riding, this is really, really light.”

16.71 Ah — over 100 Wh more than last year's Summit. “The battery's even IPX7 certified, which means you can totally submerge it. That's crazy.”

The 3-amp charger fills the 802 Wh pack from completely empty in a little over 5 hours, through a magnetic charging port door in the down tube.
About these numbers: Everything here was measured in the shop — rain washed out the trail ride, so the full off-road test is coming in a follow-up video. The 28 mph top speed was run on the work stand in custom mode with boost, with no rider weight on the bike. Ben is 5'9" and tested the large frame (fits 5'7"–6'5").

The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's Take
Last year I reviewed the Velotric Summit 1 — one of the best beginner electric mountain bikes I'd ever ridden — and the Summit 2 is a great bike made even better. The build was child's play, maybe 20 minutes, one of the simplest I've ever done in this shop. You get a bigger UL-certified battery, a stronger motor with 100 Newton-meters of torque, and an app where everything is fully customizable — which is insane. All of those upgrades only cost you $100 over the Summit 1. It was raining too hard to put it through the paces on the trails, but that ride test is coming soon.
👍 What I loved
- One of the simplest builds I've ever done — about 20 minutes, anyone can do it
- Super clean welds and a very high-quality paint job with a thick clear coat
- Only 57 lb — really light compared to everything else I ride
- Bigger UL-certified battery — over 100 Wh more than last year, and IPX7 submersible
- App ride tuning is fully customizable per mode, and the app itself is clean
- Shimano hydraulic brakes and 9-speed CUES drivetrain — parts any bike shop can service
👎 What to know
- Plastic pedals are a bummer on a bike like this — I'm swapping them before hitting trails
- Chainring has no protector or cover, and the cranks are generic
- Battery ships in hibernation, so the bike wouldn't power on until I plugged it in
- Hardtail with no rear suspension — add a suspension seat post for comfort
