FULL REVIEW ON THE BIKE CAVE

Mini Goat

“Other than this misaligned caliper up front, this is my perfect bike. Fast, smooth, silent, low standover, comfortable.” 72 volts and 5,300 watts of completely silent direct drive, one of the lowest standover heights on the market, and up to 70 amp hours of battery. I ran it through the gauntlet — 47 mph on GPS with me on it, 31 mph up a 15% grade, and a stop from 28 mph well inside 20 feet.

The pack inside the bodywork

“When you order your new Mini Goat, you get to choose how big the battery is in here. There's three choices — a 30, a 40, or a 50 amp hour battery right here in the frame.” That's the pack doing all the work, and it's what sets the price: 30 Ah at $2,999, 50 Ah at $3,600.

Bolt another 20 Ah on top

“And if 50 amp hours isn't big enough for you, you can choose to add a second battery here with another 20 amp hours.” It's got its own power button on the top. Mine came with dual 5-amp chargers to fill all 70 Ah — and I got 34.6 miles in before I even remembered to switch the top one on.

Everything on this page — every number, every photo, every quote — is pulled straight out of that review. Worth knowing: Goat sent me the bike, then emailed a few weeks later to say “wait, we just developed a brand new 72 volt motor” and to hold the video. The bike you see here is running that upgraded motor and the upgraded 60A sinewave controller, which is what every Mini Goat ships with now.

Real Numbers, Not Brochure Numbers

I Ran It Through The Gauntlet

Rider weight 190 lbs, GPS-verified
Ben at top speed on the Mini Goat at Test Drive Island
Top Speed 47 mph on GPS

“It just kicks and it just sits you right back in the seat. 20 miles an hour already… 43, 44, 45, 46 — I'm going to tuck, see if that makes a 47. 47 miles an hour with me sitting on it. Now, there was a little bit of a headwind, but man, that's as fast as I want to be going on a bike. What a rush.”

Goat quotes 55–60 mph on the 30 Ah bike with a 125 lb rider. I'm 190 lbs on the heavier pack, with a headwind, in start strength 5. On the stand with no load the motor spun to 73 mph.

Mini Goat climbing a steep hill
Hill Climb 31 mph uphill

“I always start right here at my fire hydrant, and up ahead I've got a super long sustained 15% grade hill. I'm about 190 lbs right now… I've got 30 miles an hour up on the hill. I love how silent this thing is, you can't hear the motor at all. 31 miles an hour uphill.

Run in pedal assist 3 — the highest of the three modes I'd configured that day, not a special climb mode.

Mini Goat after the 28 mph braking test
Braking <20 ft from 28 mph

“17, 21, 24, 27, 28 already — and break. Look at this. Well within. Oh, I can smell the burning rubber… Well within the braking distance. This is as good as it gets, guys.

I hold every brake test to 28 mph so bikes are comparable. Four-piston hydraulics, 180 mm rotor front / 203 mm rear — “a little bit of a weird brake setup, but you know what? It works for this bike.”

Ben accelerating hard on the Mini Goat
Acceleration 27 mph to the mark

“I always start right here at my lamp pole and just up ahead there's a driveway pull-out. If I can get to 20 miles an hour, we got a fast bike. And something tells me that 5,000 watts at 72 volts is probably going to get me there… 7, 14, 18, 22, 25, 27 miles an hour.

Mini Goat riding through wet beach sand
Off-Road & Sand Sand cleared

“Just like I thought, it's hard to keep your balance when the tires dig in that much. But man, this thing has so much power, it's unreal. Yeah, no problems in the sand — even with these little tires. I'm accelerating on the beach.”

“This is not an off-road bike by any stretch of the imagination, but it can go off-road.” Turning in deep sand is hard; once you're moving, it goes.

Mini Goat display showing battery voltage and trip data
Range Report ~1 mile per amp hour

“I'm at 58% of the battery, I'm down to 75.4 volts and I've hit 34.6 miles… Goat Power Bikes are very honest when it comes to range. You're going to get about one mile per amp hour of battery capacity that you have. If you have 30, you're guaranteed about 30 miles. If you have 40, 50, 60, 70 — you're guaranteed up to about 70 miles throttle-only. And that's worst case scenario.

Lower the power mode and put some pedal power in and you'll stretch that 70 further — “maybe 80, 90, but that's pushing it.”

The Engineering

Built On Better Technology

Mini Goat FASTACE coil rear shock

Chassis & Suspension

Inverted fork up front, adjustable coil out back.

Aluminium Frame, Low Standover

“It has one of the lowest standover heights on the market.” 29.5" seat height, and yet — “it's a long bike, so it's super stable. It's not twitchy. It's just long and smooth, composed.”

FASTACE Coil Rear Shock

“Not only do you get an adjustable preload coil, but this shock also has rebound to slow it down… and it's also got a blue compression setting right up at the top.” Tuned to my weight plus the second battery, it gives perfect support — “it's not springy, it's nice and damped.”

Inverted Motorcycle Fork

“This keeps the front suspension super light and fluttery, really nice and responsive to small bumps. Up top here there's a compression setting… crank this thing all the way and you can lock it out, too.”

Mini Goat 72V direct drive motor

Motor & Controller

72V, 5,300W peak, 175 Nm — and silent.

The New 72V Direct Drive

“This motor is even quieter than the first one… this is completely silent. You can't hear anything out of this bike. Just the wind blowing by your ears. This little thing is by far the quietest motor I have ever had the pleasure to ride, bar none.”

60A Sinewave Controller

“They didn't just stop at upgrading the motor, they upgraded the controller as well. This is a sinewave controller — one of the best, most efficient controllers out there, especially when you have a 72 volt system with this much power.”

Start Strength 0–5

“Start strength is probably one of the coolest features you can change… at five it's just too much for me, so I notched it down to four and now it feels money” — a smooth one-second ramp, then all the power.

Mini Goat optional gas-tank battery

Battery & Range

Up to 70 Ah at 72 volts.

30, 40 or 50 Ah In-Frame

Pick your pack when you order. The bodywork you're looking at is the battery box — that's why the weight sits so low and why, leaning it over, “it just feels like it's glued to the ground.”

+20 Ah Gas-Tank Kit

A second 72V 20 Ah pack bolts on top with its own power switch. “Turn the second battery on, turn the bike back on, I'm back to 99%, 82.8 volts — stupid.”

Dual 5A Chargers

Both packs charge at once on the supplied pair of 5-amp chargers, so filling all 70 amp hours doesn't mean waiting twice as long.

Mini Goat colour display showing speed, battery percentage, voltage and live motor wattage

The Cockpit

Everything In Plain English

Colour display + Bluetooth app (ignition key required for power)

“Top right you get a battery meter with percentage, so you can see exactly how much is left. Not only that, but you get the battery's voltage as well to be super accurate. In the middle you get a speedometer, and down here a wattage output for your motor — you can see exactly how many thousands of watts are running through that little motor in the back.”

“If you hold the plus and minus button you can get into the general and speed settings. This is nice because you're not dealing with P01 or P03 settings that you have to decipher through a manual. Everything here is in plain English, and you can see exactly what you're doing.” You can even set how many pedal-assist modes exist — I ran three.

Throttle response was the other thing I tested: “every eighth of an inch that you twist more, it just gives you like another 10 miles an hour. It's just so good.” And the cadence sensor — “literally half a pedal stroke and the motor kicks in. By the time my front foot gets to the back, I'm getting power.”

“For reference, I'm 5'9 and this bike fits me like a dream. I can reach the ground flat-footed, and with a heavy bike like this with so much battery, you need to have a solid base just like a motorcycle. But the one thing I'm noticing is that for a bike with such a low standover, it's not that short — it still has a really nice roomy reach.” If the stock position is too low and your knees end up in your chest, Goat sells a seat riser bracket that lifts the saddle a few inches; the handlebars also move in and out for reach.

The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben's Take

I've ridden well over 50 bikes this year, and I've owned Goats before, so I don't say this lightly: this is my perfect bike. Fast, smooth, silent, low standover, comfortable. Goat Power Bikes make my favourite bikes of all time — and this one just took the number one spot.

Start with the thing nobody else has nailed. Finally, a brand made a bike with a standover low enough that you can plant your feet on the ground — and it's still long, which is why it's so stable and why the handling is so good. I leaned it over expecting the tall second battery to make it twitchy and instead it felt glued to the ground. The suspension is velcroed to the road; the ride is one of the smoothest I've had all year. And the motor — this is by far the quietest motor I've ever had the pleasure to ride, bar none. You don't hear the motor, you don't hear the tires. Just the wind whizzing by your ears.

The numbers back it up: 47 mph on GPS with me sitting on it, 31 mph up a long 15% grade, stopped well inside 20 feet from 28 mph, and about a mile per amp hour of range, worst case. It looks industrial — scuffed bolts, welds you can see, like someone hand-built it in their garage — and I love that about it. Everything else, from the battery connections to the electronics to the way you tune it, feels genuinely premium. Other than a front brake caliper I hadn't gotten around to aligning, there is not a single thing I would change about this bike.

👍 What I loved

  • The quietest motor I have ever ridden — completely silent at any speed
  • One of the lowest standovers on the market, and still flat-footed at 5'9"
  • Long wheelbase — agile leaning over, dead stable at 47 mph
  • Suspension is adjustable everywhere and genuinely plush under the weight
  • Throttle mapping and start strength let you crawl at 7 mph or launch
  • Up to 70 Ah of battery and an honest ~1 mile per amp hour
  • Everything in the settings menu is in plain English, not P01/P03 codes

👎 What to know

  • My front brake caliper needed aligning out of the box — the only fault all day
  • 130 lbs — plan on a truck bed, not a bike rack
  • Pedals are token: tiny cranks, single speed. This is a throttle bike
  • Start strength 5 is harsh — 4 is the setting you actually want
  • The 16" moto wheels dig in deep sand; capable off-road, but not an off-road bike
  • Ships 20 mph limited, and may not qualify as an e-bike where you live
