The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben's Take

The ALPHA is the odd one out in the Heybike range — and the most interesting. Instead of a hub motor it runs a Mivice mid-drive with 105 N·m, so it climbs and handles like a much more expensive bike, with the weight kept low and central. A torque sensor, 60-mile battery and a choice of step-through or step-over frames round it out. At $1,299 it's an investment, and range is more modest than the big-battery hub bikes, but for hills and trails the mid-drive is worth it. Camera review to come.

👍 What stands out

  • Mid-drive with 105 N·m — the best climber here
  • Torque sensor for a natural, efficient ride
  • Step-through or step-over, same price
  • 26" fat tyres + hydraulic fork and brakes
  • Centred weight handles better off-road

👎 What to know

  • Not yet reviewed on camera — verdict and score to come
  • 60-mile range trails the big-battery hub bikes
  • $1,299 is a lot for a 680Wh fat bike
  • LCD (not TFT) display is basic
